Gifted is just another label people place on each other. They set you aside at school and tell you they think you’re gifted. And that means you are somehow destined for greatness in some form or other.
Well I don’t believe in gifts, not ones handed down from above anyway. They said I had a gift with words. I said I have a love for language, and when you have a love for something, naturally you succeed on an endeavour to prosper. Language is a tool to articulate oneself. The better grasp you have, the better you can articulate what you wish. Language is a tool of manipulation. So to get what you want out of life, one must know how to manipulate words in a compelling way to achieve whatever it is that you wish to achieve.
They said I had a gifted intellect. I said I have a love for knowledge. One must consume knowledge, like how a sponge soaks up water. Knowledge is your arsenal of weaponry to bring with you to whatever challenge or battle you face. Intellect is not gifted. It is soaked up by those who have a love of learning. Humans are a conflicting bunch, we fight wars, we clash heads. That is our design. To compete. Therefore ones ability to outsmart another is what gives you the ability to survive, in an environment where only the fittest survive.
They said these gifts are what give you the ability to succeed. I said it is love for what you do, and the willingness to pursue it that gives you success. In life a man must find a cause to donate his life to, something that he believes in, it’s the love of fulfilment that makes you succeed. Not a gift. What all of the above shares however, is love, loving what you do. Having love for the simplest yet most amazing feats of humanity, such as language is what sets people apart. This love that others don’t see is what they mistake for a gift.
